GATE has a broad eligibility criterion, allowing students from diverse educational backgrounds to participate.

Undergraduate Degree Students: Candidates currently studying in the 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate program (Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, Humanities) are eligible.
Graduates: Those who have already completed their degree in the above fields can apply.

Exam Pattern of GATE 2026

The examination will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode across more than 200 cities in India.

Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes). PwD candidates with scribes get 4 hours.
Total Papers: 30 subjects (a candidate may appear in one or two papers).
Questions: 65 questions carrying 100 marks.
